International Journal of Public Information Systems
Announcement and Call for Submissions

The editors and board for the International Journal of Public Information Systems hereby announce the inauguration of a new on-line international journal. The IJPIS wants to link researchers and other professionals who share an interest in the process, nature, significance and implications of public information systems design.

The journal is a forum for analytical and comparative articles, essays, case-studies, and book reviews on such topics as innovation and research, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and products. The journal publishes insightful pieces intended for general readers as well as specialists. To illuminate important debates and draw attention to specific topics, the journal occasionally publishes thematic issues. The purpose of the IJPIS is to create a forum for researchers and practitioners in the broad area of public information systems and aims at publishing studies of public information systems. The journal acknowledges the interdisciplinary nature of such studies. Topics include, but are not restricted to:

  • User-centred design, usability, usefulness, citizens perspectives
  • Customer relations, different forms of interactions
  • Quality and security
  • Governance and democracy, political prerequisites
  • Decision support systems, risk and decision analysis
  • Integration and segregation, cooperation between public administrations/government agencies
  • Digital archives
  • Multimedia communications

Public information systems may be defined as information systems that

  • Provide services to the public (people and companies/organisations)
  • Empower citizens and organisations to exercise democratic influence
  • Support governments on all levels to perform their tasks in an efficient and reliable way
  • Capture, preserve, and make available useful data for analysis, planning, and research

The International Journal of Public Information Systems wants to link researchers and other professionals who share an interest in the process, nature, significance and implications of public information systems design.

The editors request that interested professionals submit original manuscripts for publication in upcoming issues of the IJPIS. As the journal is new, the current backlog is low, and the time to publication is correspondingly reduced. Please submit your manuscripts using the instructions as follows:

Submission of Papers for Scientific Review
Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts in MS Word format to the editor in chief, Bo Sundgren. If authors are unsure about the suitability of their manuscripts for the IJPIS, authors are welcome to discuss their papers with any of the members of the editorial board prior to a formal submission.

Once a paper is submitted, one of the members of the editorial board will be assigned by the chief editor to act as the editor of the manuscript. The editor will seek advice from reviewers who are competent to judge the scientific quality of the manuscript. Each reviewer will provide a recommendation to the editor concerning the manuscript's suitability for being published by the IJPIS.

The reviewers will also provide substantive feedback to authors to assist them in improving their work. After the review, the assigned editor and the chief editor will arrive at a decision whether to publish the manuscript or not, or under which conditions the manuscript may later be published.

Submission of other Contributions
The main purpose of the International Journal of Public Information Systems is to publish scientifically reviewed papers of good quality. However, the journal is also open for other contributions like informative articles about interesting, on-going activities in the area of public information systems, e.g. practical implementation projects.

Such articles will be placed in a separate section in order not to be confused with the reviewed articles. The journal will also be open for book reviews, debates, and other contributions of general interest for people engaged in public information systems.
